He studied law and economics at the University of Moscow, then went on to gain a professorship at the University of Dorpat.



When Kandinsky moved to Munich in 1896, he began to study Art at the private Art school of Anton Azbe. A school which had become one of the most famous in the capitol. Kandinsky was not the only renowned Artist to study here. Jawelensky, Jakopic and Petrovic all attended the Abe School. Jawelensky moved to the Bavarian capitol in 1896, the same year as Kandinsky, in order to study at the Azbe School. In 1909, he and other artists would join Kandinsky to form the Neue Knstlervereinigung Mnchen, in 1909. It translated, the New Artists Association of Munich. The early work of Jawelensky was rich and colorful, but later, his work would search for the simplicity and spirituality found within Abstract Art. The New Artists Association would lead to founding of Der Blaue Reiter, or the Blue Rider, group. A short lived but notable forerunner, for the development of Modern Art, during the twentieth century. Kandinsky and Franz Marc was central to the formation of the Blue Rider. The group formed as a direct response to the refusal to exhibit an Oil Painting of Kandinskys, titled The Last Judgement. Other members of the Blue Rider group included August Macke, Albert Bloch and Lyonel Feininger. All of which are considered to be highly influential and important painters, with regards to the development of Modern Art. The color blue, for Kandinsky represented the spiritual - as discussed in his book published in 1911, On the Spiritual in Art.



Every Artist, within the Blue Rider Group, had an individual approach and style associated with their Abstract Art. However, what each of them shared, was the desire to express and paint a spiritual truth. Therefore, promoting the concepts we recognize today, as Modern Abstract Art. The principles of Modern Art, essentially Abstract Art, began with Kandinsky, and the work carried out by the Blue Rider group. Even today, their philosophies remain quintessential to most, if not all forms of Modern Art. Is Reward Training or Dog Collar Training the Best Dog Training Method To Train Your Dog

Reward training is considered by many dog training professionals as the most modern method of training a dog, but reward training is probably a lot older than other methods of dog training. It may be that reward training for dogs has been around as long as there have been dogs to train. It is believed that the early humans used some informal kind of reward training when taming the wolf pups that eventually evolved into modern dogs.

Reward training or positive dog training generally consists of keeping the attention on what the dog is doing right, is usually recognized as not only the most effective method, and as a method that a positive experience for the dog, but also the most modern method of training a dog, but reward training probably is likely older than the other dog training methods, and probably goes way back thousands of years. It is quite conceivable that reward training for dogs has been around as long humans have in teracted with dogs.

The earliest known domestic dogs go back to the domestication of abandoned wolf puppies the early humans took in from the gray wolf several tens of thousands of years ago. These early domesticated dogs were trained to do task for humans that included acting as a guard animal, or to herd animals. Early humans probably used some kind of reward training when they started taming the wolf pups that would eventually evolve into modern dogs.

This unique connection existing between dog and man continues up to today. Dogs now usually perform many tasks for their owners, like herding, guarding, hunting, and rescue work or special assistance.

Many advocates of reward training are far less enthusiastic about other methods of dog training, such as those that involve the use of the traditional leash and dog collar training method. However, as far as many other experts are concerned, the best way to train any individual dog is usually a combination of leash/collar training and reward training.

Something that complicates thing a bit is that a training method that works well for one dog may be totally not be appropriate for another dog. Some dogs will only respond well when it comes to reward training but not very well with dog leash training or even dog collar training. It the same time there are other dogs that can respond to leash/collar training but may not be motivated by reward training. It is believed that most dogs will tend to fall somewhere in the middle of these two extremes.

Clicker training is considered to be one of the most popular forms of reward training used today. While clicker training may not be the correct form of training for every dog, it can be a really effective method of training many dogs. How clicker training works by teaching the dog to associate a clicking sound with a reward, like a treat.

You can actually teach your dog the learn without any physical compulsion or correctin g at all. The clicker is just a toy-like device used in the initial stages of dog draining. The trainer clicks the clicker when the dog does something good, and is followed immediately by a treat. Over time, the dog will soon learn to respond to the clicker alone.

Positive reinforcement using treats and unlimited praise is the all important key to proper dog training, whether it is with reward training, or dog leash or dog collar training, because it is effective at getting your dog's respect and attention. Both you and your dog will benefit, since in time you will have a faithful companion you can be proud of.

What is Modern Art?

As a non-artist, when I think of modern art, I think of art that has recently been created, and trying to think in a larger scope of history, I think of recent as in the last 100 years. In many ways, this is correct, but not completely. In the art world, different art styles are referred to as -isms. This probably sounds familiar from an old college humanities class. You probably learned about Naturalism, Romanticism, Realism, Impressionism, and more. Well, some of these -isms are major category heads, with many sub-isms beneath them, and that is true with Modernism.

Modernism was an all encompassing movement that takes in other movements as well. Modernism took place during the first part of the 20th century, and though sub-categories under Modernism may be quite different from each other, they do hold in common the rejection of Naturalism and Academicism, both styles which followed rigid rules of painting that could be taught in school, and that closely resembled the natural world. Instead Modernists favored experimental art.

The modern world was changing, so art needed to change as well. Modern art would explore the new modern world, and artists chose to do this in various ways. But regardless of the form of expression chosen, all forms are an exploration of each artist's own vision of life in their own way. Some of the sub-isms of Modernism, and what they explore, include: Expressionism which explores emotions and states of the mind, Constructivism which concentrates on social function, Surrealism tries to express the unconscious mind, and Cubism which explores the nature of representation.

These are just a few of the trends encompassed by Modernism, some are quite different, and others overlap with each other, but to all these artists, art became a way to discover truth, whether it be a modern truth of Futurism, or a universal truth of Suprematism. They all tried, I their own way, to seek answers to fundamental questions about the nature of art and human experience.

Modernism lasted about three quarters through the 20th century, and by the 1970's, modern artists were moving onto Post Modernism. Surprisingly, it was architects who took the lead in the development of Post Modernism, but much of the Post Modern visual art is a criticism of modern society.

Understanding a bit about Modernism and Post Modernism is helpful when discussing modern art. Plus, it is good to be familiar with the lingo of the art world, to use it correctly, especially to avoid confusion when talking with experts.

So back to the question of what is modern art? To the non-artist, all art created in the last 100 years is modern art, because modern refers to the present, or recent times. Modern art, in my mind, includes all of these -isms. Modern art does not directly resemble the subject, but is abstract. It is more difficult to understand but sometimes understanding is a mute point, the art is to be enjoyed.
